Ambassador Dinesh Bhatia assumed the charge of Consul General of India,Toronto on 9 March 2016. He joined Indian Foreign Service in 1992. He speaks Hindi, English, Spanish, Punjabi and Multani. Prior to joining in the current post, His Excellency Mr. Dinesh Bhatia was Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of India to Cote d’Ivoire, Guinea and Liberia with residence in Abidjan. He was conferred Commander of the National Order of Republic of Cote d’Ivoire. During his diplomatic career, Amb Bhatia has served in various specialized jobs in the Ministry of External Affairs, New Delhi.

A resident of Brampton since 1983, Mayor Linda Jeffrey is strongly rooted in Brampton and is passionate about the city’s development. She was elected Mayor on December 1, 2014. She has an established track record in public service both at the municipal and provincial levels. During her 20-year tenure in the political field, she served as a Brampton City Councillor for four consecutive terms from 1991- 2003. Subsequently, she was elected to the Ontario Legislative Assembly for three consecutive terms representing the people of Brampton Centre and Brampton-Springdale.

Frank Scarpitti is the mayor of the city of Markham, in Ontario, Canada. Scarpitti was born in Ontario in 1960 and moved to Markham from Toronto in 1965. He is married and has three children. Scarpitti was appointed mayor from 1992 to 1994 following the death of Tony Roman, but was defeated by Don Cousens in the 1994 municipal election. He subsequently worked as broadcaster with CFMT in Toronto during his absence from politics. Scarpitti has served various roles in municipal politics.

Every community has a handful of names that are well-known to both long-time residents and newcomers alike. In Richmond Hill, Barrow is such a name. Dave Barrow was born and raised in Richmond Hill. He attended McConaghy Public School, Richmond Hill High School and Ryerson Polytechnical Institute prior to entering the family business and Richmond Hill municipal politics. Dave’s political career began with his first term as Councilor of Ward 4 in 1978. He remained Councilor through to 1985. He was first elected Mayor in 2006 and was re-elected in 2010 and again in 2014.

Kash Sood immigrated from India, en-route to U.S, loved Toronto so much that decided to settle here. His is an amazing story of humble beginnings to becoming the CEO and president of the Ranka Group of Companies comprising of 11 companies in Canada. The Ranka Group of Companies took form in 1974 to cater to a market asking for reasonably priced apparel and home product. Due to the company’s widespread penetration in global sourcing and manufacturing abilities they were able to bring to the retail market quality product, reasonable price points and on time deliveries. The company’s head office is in Toronto, Canada with some of their larger offshore offices being in Shanghai China, India and Bangladesh.
Dr. Budhendranauth Doobay
Dr. Doobay was born on the August 26, 1940 in the village of Welded, Berbice in Guyana to Smt. Lasorda Ji and Pt. Ramsumair Ji Doobay. Through his leadership, he has set up many groups dedicated to serving the South Asian community of the Greater Toronto Area, its neighboring communities. Dr. Doobay is a Heart Surgeon, leader, visionary, mentor, teacher and philanthropist. He provides spiritual guidance to the peoples of Indian origin. Having built the iconic Hindu temple at the entrance of Richmond Hill, Dr. Doobay has also been responsible for creating the one-of-a-kind Canadian Museum of Indian Civilization and other landmarks including Shanti Niketan Peace Park with Mahatma Gandhi statue and memorial to the Fallen Soldier’s.

Dr. Bhalla is a certified orthodontist. He is a graduate from the University of New York at Buffalo where he attained his Doctor of Dental Surgery in 1986. Dr. Bhalla continued his education of the St. Louis University Medical Centre located in St. Louis, Missouri where he achieved his Certificate of Orthodontics in 1988. In 1993, Dr. Bhalla was certified by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons enabling him to practice as an Orthodontist in Ontario, Canada. Dr. Bhalla is a member of many Orthodontists organizations in North America and active member of the Mississauga Erin Mills Lions Club. Dr. Bhalla resides in Mississauga with his wife Uma and two sons Sean and Rohan.

Prior to his current role as Vice-President and Director for the Foundation’s Toronto Office, Kasi Rao was a Senior Fellow with the Asia Pacific Foundation of Canada. Kasi Rao also currently serves as a consultant & advisor based in Toronto providing guidance on India related strategies. In this capacity he advises corporations, universities, think tanks, not-forprofit organizations, and, different levels of government. Dr. V.I. Lakshmanan is an internationally renowned scientist, innovator, entrepreneur and teacher in the area of technologies for sustainable development. He has more than 40 years of hands-on experience in technology development and commercialization, having successfully guided process technologies from concept through development and demonstration to commercialization for energy (including renewable energy), resources and chemical (including specialty chemical) industries. Dr. Lakshmanan has consistently identified and developed innovative applications in technology commercialization. Lucky is a member of several private and public sector advisory committees on natural resources, recycling technologies and waste management. He is an active mentor of new entrepreneurs and a past Chair of the Canada India Foundation.

Harshvendra Soin heads the Canada Enterprise Business as Senior Vice President and Country Head at Tech Mahindra (Canada). Prior to his current role, he was lead Leadership Acquisition and Development and was also the Head – Business HR for APAC & IMEA (Telecom & Enterprise) for Tech Mahindra. Prior to Tech Mahindra, Harsh was the Chief People Officer for Fortis Healthcare Limited looking after all areas of Human Resources. He was working with Aditya Birla Retail Limited as Chief People Officer before Fortis. Harsh is passionate about sports, loves to travel and describes himself as a creative and a high energy person.
